A cardiologist is a physician that specializes on Cardiovascular Care. Cardio – Heart

Vascular – Vessels.

Cardiologists treat many conditions related to the heart and vascular system including, but not limited to, coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart attack, heart valve disease, heart arrythmias, congenital abnormalities, arterial and venous disease.

Invasive cardiologists have the ability to perform invasive procedures and diagnostic tests used to diagnose and treat some cardiovascular conditions such as blocked arteries, pacemakers, loop recorders, transesophageal echocardiograms. At Tri-County Heart Institute we are pleased to offer Invasive cardiology services, when needed, to our patients.

Typically, a referral is not needed to be seen by a cardiologist. However, your insurance may require this, therefore, it would be advisable to affirm this with your insurance company.

Dr. Nitza Alvarez is a Board Certified Cardiologist, Fellow of the American Heart Association.She has been providing cardiac care for over 9 years. She graduated from Medical School with honors, and completed her specialty also know as Cardiac Fellowship at Albany Medical Center in New York. She holds board certification in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Nuclear medicine and Echocardiography.

Women heart health. As a cardiologist she specialized in management of cardiovascular disease however she has a special interest in women heart diseases.

Currently Dr Alvarez hold privileges at UF The Villages Regional Hospital, UF Leesburg Regional Hospital and the Outpatient Surgery Center of Central Florida.

At Tri-County we encouraged the use of our patient portal or healow app for more effective communication with your providers. By using the Patient Portal, or healow app you no longer have to call the office, leave a message, and wait for a response to get the results of your lab work; those results will be available to you through the Portal. You can also send a message to the office through the Portal and expect a prompt reply.

Dr. Alvarez hosts Walk with the Doc every 2nd Saturday of the month at no cost.Wine with a Doc is a upcoming event intended for you to come and interact with the doctor without feeling pressure to use her services as your cardiac provider.

At Tri-County the quality of the encounter is our priority. We utilize Scribes to secure direct one to one time with your doctor without submitting you to the interruption that many times come with the use of technology.

Although age alone is not necessary the only factor to determine if you should see a heart specialist, any women older than 55 y/o, or a man older than 45 y/o consider seen a cardiologist as they are at higher risk for cardiac diseases.

If you have strong family history for cardiac disease with a mother or sister with heart attack before the age of 65 or a father or brother before the age of 55 y/o you will benefit from seen a cardiologist. If you have high cholesterol or suffer from uncontrolled HTN consider establishing with a cardiologist.

Several health conditions, your lifestyle, and your age and family history can increase your risk for heart disease. High blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart disease. Other factors are High Cholesterol, Smoking, Lack of exercise. Diet, obesity and even Family history.

Yes. Although there are some similar aspects, heart disease in women present different and many times the treatment is different.

Yes. A cardiologist will be able to detect a heart condition that you might not be aware of having. It can also complete a pre-exercise stress test to evaluate your exercise capacity, your blood pressure response to exercise and any presence of arrhythmias on exertion.

Compare to traditional offices we are a very innovative practice. Our practice offers the opportunity to use online tools to track your healthcare through our office. The Patient Portal, and our mobile app Healow, enables all patients to communicate with doctors, nurses, and staff members easily, safely, and securely with the click of a button.

Yes, we support healow application on your smart phone or other electronic device. If so, use our unique practice code to enroll: ACDFAD, when prompted to start taking charge of your health on your smart phone or electronic device.

Appointments

You may utilize our telephone service at 352-504-3500 to schedule an appointment. Our staff will then assist you with new patient paperwork and required documents needing submission prior to your appointment. 

Our office staff is fully equipped to assist you at your first appointment. When you come, you will be asked to provide a copy of your driver’s license and insurance card. It is important that we have an up to date phone number, mailing address, and email address on file in order to provide timely communication. You also will want to familiarize yourself with our policies in procedures (located in the new patient paperwork packet) prior to your first appointment.

We strive to provide professional, timely, efficient services to each and every patient. To help facilitate this, please arrive on time to your appointment with your photo ID and insurance card. If you have any recent records (labs, cardiac testing, ect) that we have not requested or obtained, please also bring a copy. Have an updated medication list with everything you are currently taking including supplements and dosages. If required by your insurance, you may need to pay a co-payment, therefore, please bring form of payment. 

For every appointment we will need:
  1. Form of Identification (Drivers License, Photo ID)
  2. Current Insurance card(s)
  3. To confirm Primary Care Doctor
  4. Labs drawn from your PCP – if indicated
  5. Blood Pressure Logs
  6. Method of payment (Credit Card, Checkbook, or Cash)
  7. Payments owed at the time of service
  8. Current medication list including:
a. Vitamins and Supplements
b. Over the counter medications
c. New Medications

Failure to cancel any appointments within 24 hours (1 full business day, Mon – Fri)of your appointment will result in a $50.00 charge added to your account.

You can use the healow app, patient portal or you may call our office at 352-504-3500 to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Our staff is committed to excellence and is ready and willing to assist you if this may be your need.

Testing appointments run on time. If you are late, you may not be allowed to test.If you are unable to test because you are late, miss your appointment, or did not follow instructions, there will be a fee up to $200 added to your account.

There are two office locations.
The Villages location address is 1400 US HWY 441 Suite 537 The Villages, FL 32159. This is located in the Sharon Morse Building on the third floor. When you get off of the elevator, turn right. Our office is all the way down the hallway to the left, Suite 537.

Our Leesburg location is Premier Plaza 27 located at 26218 US HWY 27 Suite 103 Leesburg, Fl 34748. About 2 miles south of the intersection of US HWY 27 and SR48.

Yes, we can do our best to assist you. But You must know what medication(s) you are taking and how to take them.

  1. Know the name and dosage of the medication(s).
  2. Keep a list with you.
  3. We can help you understand
  4. When you should take your medications and what to do if you miss a dose
  5. The side effects (for example, drowsiness or nausea)
  6. Any potential interaction
  7. We also offer assistance in reconciling your medication list to help you

better understand your medications

Portal

Yes, we offer web enabled services in order to effectively communicate and publish your diagnostic tests, lab results, etc. It also is a convenient way to stay in touch with your provider should you have a question or concern.

Do you provide after hours and weekend services?
Yes, you may contact our answering services after hours at 352-504-3500. For immediate emergency medical attention, please contact 911.
