Dr. Nitza I. Alvarez
Dr. Nitza I. Alvarez is the oldest of 10 siblings, something which has shaped the way she approaches every aspect of her working life.
Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, she completed medical school with honors, becoming a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society – Gamma Chapter. Her membership of such a prestigious professional medical organization was recognition for her continued excellence in scholarship and her demonstration of the highest ideals in the profession of medicine. It’s a passion for her work that she still holds to this day.
After completing her formal studies, she moved to Albany, NY, where she completed her residency in Internal Medicine, and a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases. It’s at this point that she chose to move to Florida, where she has been providing leading early intervention care for her patients ever since.
She is proud to be Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), in Adult Echocardiography by the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), and Nuclear Cardiology by the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC). In addition, she is a professional member of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association | American Stroke Association (AHA-ASA), ASE, and ASNC.
Dr. Alvarez has a well-known interest in the specialist area of women’s heart disease, and shares a special interest in the management of arrhythmias and preventive cardiovascular medicine. This philosophy was the subject of a feature article that appeared in the April, 2023 issue of The Villages Business Insider magazine. Plus, as an avid runner, she believes passionately that an early intervention approach to medicine needs to be built on a healthy lifestyle.
When not working, or pursuing her numerous outreach projects, she can be found enjoying quality time with her husband and 2 children.
